I found out about Terra Firma through the Chief Engineer of Green Technologies (Dept. of Infrastructure Development). I was an intern and was nominated to attend the course.
What drove you to search for training in the first place?
I wanted to learn a new skill.
What was your expectation of the training, and was it met, superseded or not quite what you expected?
I expected to learn about principles of energy and energy efficiency, understanding what makes a device efficient and calculating energy savings. Yes, the expectations were met
Have you done any similar short courses, and if so, how did they compare?
What is your success story – how did the training help you achieve your goals?
I have a clear understanding of energy efficiency and am able to interpret and calculate energy bills. I retrofitted my home with energy efficient products reducing energy consumption and saving on electrical costs.
Did the training you did come up in your job interview?
It did not but I had to mention it somehow, there was no way I was not going to talk about it.
Have you managed to use the learning and insight you gained from the training in your job?
Yes, I am working as an electrical works inspector, one of my duties is to draw up specifications so I make sure that energy efficient products are used when doing so.
Now that you have experienced the benefits of training to ‘get ahead’/find a job, what is your next step in terms of your career?
I want to be involved in Green projects at work as there will be implementing a trigeneration plant, although the department will not be running it, I also want to expand my knowledge and be a green technology guru.
