Johnnie enrolled in our Energy Efficient Management course in Johannesburg in November 2015 as well as our Carbon Footprint Analyst course in 2016 and more recently the IEMA Approved Carbon Footprint Analyst course this year. He is one of our first IEMA Approved Carbon Footprint Analyst students – well done Johnnie!
How did you find out about Terra Firma Academy?
I did a web search before my first course at Terra Firma Academy. I wanted to learn more about energy efficiency. Terra Firma’s details came up as one of the educational institutions that provide training in energy efficiency management.
What drove you to search for training in the first place?
Before the Energy Efficiency Management course that I did in Nov 2015, the supply of standby generators was an important part of our business. But big generators are very expensive. I was looking for solutions to this cost challenge that clients faced who wanted to buy generators. Energy Efficiency Management provided this solution. By assisting clients first to become more energy efficient made it possible for them to lower their energy needs which enabled them to buy smaller generators with substantial cost savings compared to larger generators which are more expensive.
What was your expectation of the training, and was it met, superseded or not quite what you expected?
It was what I expected.
Have you done any similar short courses, and if so, how did they compare?
I did Terra Firma Academy’s Energy Efficiency Management course (with SETA accreditation) in Nov 2015, the Carbon Footprint Analyst course (with SETA accreditation) in Jul 2016 and the most recent Carbon Footprint Analyst course (with IEMA certification) in Jun 2017.
What is your success story – how did the training help you achieve your goals?
I have a working knowledge around the topic of recent interest, namely the GHG debate and climate change. My knowledge in the energy efficiency and carbon footprint fields enabled me to develop an energy audit service that I can offer clients with the aim of reducing their energy use and saving on energy costs. Any cost saving improves the profit of a business.
Now that you have experienced the benefits of training to ‘get ahead’/find a job, what is your next step in terms of your career?
There are still many opportunities in the market for energy efficiency improvements. Our aim is to present our services to small-to-medium sized businesses. We are of the view that small-to-medium sized businesses should also benefit from energy efficiency strategies and the resulting cost savings and profit improvements.
